Coffee from Around the World!
Indonesian & Pacific Rim Blends

Each month Ohori’s Coffee Roasters features one of our premium, ethically sourced coffees from around the world.

This month, Coffee from Around the World features one of our favorite selections from our Indonesian & Pacific Rim collection, coffee from East Timor!
If Ohori's Coffee Roasters has a flagship coffee, it would be our Organic East Timor. For decades now, it has been our most popular organic coffee. We roast it to a deep brown, true to our Bay Area roots. This Timor is 'process fully washed' of Bourbon and Timor Hybrid verities. It's smooth and sweet with caramel, honey, lime zest, and cherry notes. It has a medium body that fits many pallets and is full of flavor without being overwhelming. Timor is a staple at the Santa Fe Opera, beloved by patrons as they enjoy long evenings and spectacular sunsets.
The island of Timor is part of The Sunda Islands, one of the most extended island arcs in the world, stretching over 3,000 miles from its western end at Sumatra —roughly the distance from Maine to Los Angeles. It includes Java and Bali, and on its eastern end, several hundred miles north of Australia, is the island of Timor.
Coffee in East Timor was a colonial project. Rumors of spice and sandalwood in the East Indies brought European colonizers. The Dutch established themselves on Java, controlling much of what is now Indonesia, including West Timor, and brought coffee to Sumatra and Java. The Portuguese controlled East Timor and established coffee there, as well as in Brazil. In the early 20th century, the coffee plant was almost wiped out in East Timor due to coffee leaf rust, but a naturally-occurring, disease-resistant hybrid was found, and production recovered.

East Timor is one of the world's poorest countries, relying on foreign aid, oil exports, and coffee, which make up a significant part of the economy. Aid groups from Japan, New Zealand, and the United States have invested heavily in agricultural and coffee production on the island.
The Ohori's TIMOR FT (fair trade) ORGANIC is sourced from family-owned farms organized around a coffee cooperative, and the average small producer cultivates their coffee on less than one hectare of land. Through the cooperative’s free healthcare initiative, seven rural clinics, three mobile clinic teams, and eleven community healthcare teams have been funded.

If you haven't tried our Organic East Timor, we recommend adding it to your next order and see if you have a new Ohori's single origin to add to your favorites!
