A superb gourmet coffee from one of the oldest growing regions in the world. We often recommend this as an espresso alternative or for those looking for a distinctive single-origin cup. Yemen Mocca Sanani is sourced from family-owned plots located throughout the western highlands of Yemen, adjacent to the Red Sea between the city of Ta’izz in the south and Sa’dah in the north.

Yemen is perhaps the most historic coffee-growing region in the world, second only to Ethiopia, with a lineage spanning more than 2,000 years. Coffee production continues today with many of the same traditions dating back to the 15th century, like drying coffee naturally in the cherry on the rooftops of houses perched on the edges of steep mountain ridges. Yet modern Yemen continues to suffer from a protracted conflict that has cost almost 100,000 lives, displaced over 3 million, and left two-thirds of the country in need of food or medical aid. So when a new crop arrives, we pause to remember and honor the coffee.

What makes the quality so special is that it hinges on a relationship of trust that has been constant for decades despite the odds.  In recent years, the export company called Pearl of Tehama has had to reinvent itself to reach and support producers. Providing things like localized receiving warehouses has eased the burden of transporting coffee and ensured safe storage. Pearl of Tehama is currently helping producers organize formally because recognized producer associations can solicit international assistance for needed infrastructure improvements like roads, schools, and water systems.

We wish you full enjoyment of this exceptional coffee.

Our Story

Ohori’s Coffee Roasters is a small batch micro-roaster in Santa Fe, founded in 1974 by Susan Ohori, in the tradition of Alfred Peet. We’re very proud to be New Mexico’s longest-serving coffee roaster, and a family business!

Dark Roast Specialists

Ohori’s specialty has been dark roast coffee for more than 40 years. That’s what we drink and what we love roasting, so we’re proud to offer Ohori’s dark roast, in the storied tradition of second-wave coffee roasting.

Awarded Best Coffee

What makes Ohori’s coffee exceptional are our roasting heritage, our consistent quality of roast, and our commitment to roasting by hand. That’s why we’ve always been Santa Fe’s favorite coffee roaster.
